Great b&b

Very clean friendly and an excellent full English brekkie. The room was of a very high standard and staff very helpful. Our son loved the cats and wildlife. Good private parking facilities. would go back

A very warm welcome

My partner Angie was working in Chelmsford, she struggled at first, to find a nice quiet B&B at a reasonable price! Enter Blatches the breakfast was excellent, they were very flexible about timing regarding breakfast. The rooms were spotless. If you are in the area I highly recommend Blatches You will not be disappointed.

Pre wedding stay

I stayed here the night before my wedding and had pre wedding photos by the beautiful pond. The room was exceptionally clean and I am fussy! The staff were very friendly an accommodating and the breakfast was so good. All in all a great choice for me as a place to get ready for my wedding day thanks for a great stay! Highly recommend.

loved it

This place was so hospitable, David and Liz were the perfect hosts and for you American readers what an amazing proper English breakfast! what else can I say apart from out of 10... 11!

loved it

I would recommend this place to stay for a night or more, nice hosts, comfortable rooms, a very pleasant stay. I would say if you do not like rural life and want to be in a town or city then this is not the place for you.

Stop over

Lovely warm feel on a cold night! Friendly welcome by the owner and his dogs, warm room, comfy bed. We drove to some beautiful nearby villages. We visit this area frequently to see family and we will definitely stay again if they have room, thank you!

Great place to stay

What a great B&B - I think the rooms are converted farm buildings, but they are large, modern, clean and really comfortable - our bed was huge, and comfy. Being on a farm, there's plenty of car parking. The owners are lovely - really friendly and welcoming. Being a B&B they don't do evening food, but they recommend some local pubs, and the one we tried (Swan in Felsted) was good. Breakfast was cooked to order, and a good selection. Would highly recommend a stay here.

One night stay at a perfect B&B

I was in Essex for 2 days on business and needed a place to stay overnight, I found Blatches farm and it was lovely, clean and the owners were very friendly. The farm had a few animals on it and when I arrived at reception I was greeted by two lovely dogs who came running from the farm to see who it was. The breakfast served in the morning was a full English breakfast and I can say it was fit for a king, it was the best I have had in ages and filter coffee and orange juice was also lovely. I would definitely stay here again if I need to attend any future meetings in the area.

Brilliant

Recently stayed for a weekend due to a family funeral, owners were very accommodating as we needed to check on early on the Friday. Room was ideal for our stay very clean and lively big bed. Breakfast was the best we had had at a B&B with eggs fresh from the farm. Two lovely dogs Milo and Jess who were very friendly and who will come for a walk round the pond with you, Milo never gets tired of a game of fetch. The owners were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay again.

Perfect spot for visiting London

I was initially attracted to the farm as they welcome guest dogs. In the end we didn't take the dogs but we were very happy with the accommodation, food and wonderful hosts and will certainly go again. Very entertaining dogs of their own offer a great welcome! Lovely rooms, simple but with everything you need. Quiet setting but very easy to get into London either by car or train. Perfect.

Meeting only

I met a business friend for a meeting staying at the farm. The manager welcomed me he was very helpful. They have a leisure complex including martial arts. The rooms were clean and comfortable. However I did not stay as meeting only. Refreshment were nice as well. Thanks

What a Great Find

My wife and I fancied exploring the delights of Essex so I booked a night at Blatches Farm. The welcome was very friendly and the accommodation superb. Self contained in what I guess used to be a stable block / tack room. Very comfortable with a huge bed, large shower and spotlessly clean. As it is a farm we had easy access to walks with our dog, who was also very welcome. Breakfast was amazing in terms of quality and quantity with proper sausages! Will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

Fantastic value

This is a very friendly B&B. The rooms are in converted farm buildings. Spacious and very clean with all usual facilities including free WiFi. Plenty of hot water and very comfortable and large beds. Very good value with a fabulous full English breakfast. You can hear the busy A120 in the distance but it did not keep us awake. I would happily stay here again.

Overnight stay

What a little gem! We had a wedding at Leez priory which is 10 mins away, lovely welcoming, lovely clean room with everything catered for. Amazing breakfast, just what was needed after a long day and lots of alcohol! A credit to the owners... and loved the dogs x

Fantastic place to stay

Fantastic place lovely clean rooms comfortable beds parking outside rooms lovely and friendly people and owners love the animals there very friendly with one of there cats giving me it's paw. Breakfast is very nice recommend anyone to go there worth the money be back soon

Nice place good rooms

We used this venue whilst working in the area the rooms are spacious and well appointed with clean modern bathrooms. The location is ideal for commuting to local towns and the breakfast is such a nice experience with the owners cooking the food to order and there is a wide range on offer and if you work away from home such as my self you will appreciate the extra effort that adds to the stay. All in all good value and a pleasant stay :-)

Superb

We went to see the Madness concert and booked two double rooms. The owners were absolutely brilliant they made us welcome from the minute we arrived. The breakfast was the best I had eaten in a long time and even better that we sat outside to eat it in the sun. The room was spotless and the bed was so comfortable. we are returning in four weeks time.

Two night stay

We decided to escape from the rain and spend a couple of days here as a base for walking with our dog. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable despite being two singles together. Plenty of room for a dog bed - we were pleased to find somewhere that takes dogs but he wasn't allowed in the breakfast area, which we understand. The breakfast was great - lots of choice and freshly cooked. Friendly hosts also! We would stay here again if visiting the area.

Safe and well looked after

As a farm stay, Blatches is a special B&B experience. The room is spotlessly clean, comfortable and feels secure. The owners are friendly, helpful and welcoming. I enjoyed my short one-night stay enormously.

Best place to stay in the area - great breakfast

Really comfortable beds, quiet rural setting, excellent showers, awesome breakfast served with a smile. This is one of those places worth finding - and worth reading the reviews on trip advisor. It's a great place to stay.

Great find!

Have stayed here a few times now, flying out of Stansted or visiting Chelmsford, and it has been ideal... Easy to get to / from both destinations, Good sized rooms, which are always immaculate, Comfy beds and good showers, Breakfast that hits the spot, But the owners are the real jewel in the crown, they couldn't be more welcoming and helpful.

Excellent retreat while visiting family

Nicely converted farm buildings with comfortable bed, warm and cosy even in miserable February. Friendly and helpful owners, great breakfast. So much nicer than a hotel chain! A bit tricky to find as the farm drive is off the old Braintree Road but good access to the A120 and Stansted Airport.

Cosy and friendly

Great place to stay, even in the storms we really enjoyed it. The room was cosy comfortable and warm, the bed was massive but perfect. A good place to stay if you wish to sample the delights of rural Essex. The breakfast was excellent and wholesome, the owners as very friendly and welcoming and lovely people. We will be going back in the summer.

Friendly, clean and inviting!!

We stayed here for one night. It is set in the middle of a farm and lots of open space around. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. We slept well after a busy day. The breakfast in the morning was really good and David the owner and his wife were very friendly. I will definitely be coming back to stay again and would recommend it to anyone who wants something a little different to a budget hotel.

Great Stay

Just come back from a wonderful three night stay at Blatches Farm, room was clean and fresh and the bed so comfortable, I haven't slept so well in years! Breakfast was amazing and I was really made to feel welcome by the wonderful hosts. Have stayed once before and would definitely recommend it to anyone and will definitely be staying again, the only bad thing was having to leave.

Great Brekkie

Hidden away the farm is the quietest place around. Room very clean and everything really that you need. Bed was really comfy with a lovely feather quilt. Breakfast was cooked to order and they offer a great selection. felt very well looked after! Sorry about the doggy prints.

Fab, Friendly Facilities

Another great stay, lovely room, with copious beverage choices, free WiFi, Freeview TV and lashings of hot water from the rainfall shower; free shampoo and shower gel and, as usual, plenty of choice at breakfast; and plenty of it. Great dog walking too. I could have stayed nearer to my eventual destination, but I chose to stay here (again) as it never disappoints.

Exceptional room and service

We stayed here last weekend due to the fact we are relocating to the area. You couldn't ask for better service, the staff are very helpful and make your stay enjoyable, the room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic! All in all a joy to stay, will recommend to family if they come and visit us. Thank you and maybe see you at your judo class.

Blatches farm

I cannot fault this little gem, so clean and comfortable, I will never look at a premier inn or travel lodge again! the hosts were friendly, helpful, and we were more than happy with the price, we thank you so much for a wonderful stay, and look forward to coming back. what a beautiful place with a lovely scenic surrounding x Sharon and Paul x

A real gem

We stayed here for two nights during a friends wedding and it was a great find. As others have said a decent size room with comfy bed and a great shower. Breakfast was superb - the best poached eggs I've had anywhere! Hosts are warm and welcoming and a host of farm animals add to the charm. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Lovely weekend break

Stayed Friday and Saturday night, we could not have been made more welcome. Lovely clean, comfortable and bright rooms with a great cooked breakfast. We went into Dunmow each evening for food ate at the Balti on Friday, Indo China Saturday both good food at a reasonable price. We planned to ride the Flitch Way on Sunday a disused railway track only a few hundred yards from the property, the owners kindly let us leave our luggage until our return in the afternoon.

Great Service

Used this place as attending a wedding nearby. The welcome couldn't have been more friendly. All the rooms are in a nicely converted barn across from the main farmhouse. The rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast was very good and tasty. Overall fantastic value for money.

Lovely stay at Blatches Farm

We attended a wedding reception at a nearby venue and stayed for one night - it was perfect. Very accommodating when we were unsure of our arrival time, very comfortable rooms and beds, clean with a lovely surrounding area. Beautiful cooked breakfast and friendly hosts made it a lovely stay. I couldn't recommend more highly.

Very friendly, clean and all facilities

Excellent room, breakfast, couldn't ask for more. Good free internet. Comfy bed. Everything I needed was already provided. Good value for area. Highly recommended. Very friendly couple running B&B. Stayed whilst on a local woodland management course. Would definitely stay again.

A very warm welcome

We have just spent a night at Blatches Farm. 4 adults and 3 children. We were all made to feel incredibly welcome. Our two girls had a lovely tour around the farm. Breakfast was very relaxed and delicious. The rooms were very clean and very comfortable. We will be back.

Brill

Just come home after a 2 night stay at Blatches Farm, absolutely first class, huge bed, spotlessly clean white bed linen and a super hot powerful shower. Good breakfast, really set us up for the day ahead. Wonderful hosts, made to feel very welcome, Highly recommended.

Excellent

We spent one night here whilst visiting friends. A very nice clean room, with a very comfortable bed and pristine bed linen. The bathroom was of a good size with soft white towels. We had an excellent breakfast served at a time to suit. It was lovely to be on a farm and was able to enjoy a pre breakfast walk around the fields with my dog. The owners were away but their daughter and her team were very friendly and efficient. Very convenient for Stansted airport.

Lovely place to stay

We stayed here while my daughter held a party. After rushing round to help her prepare it was nice to come to this real oasis of calm and relax. The walk in shower is amazing, its so nice not to worry if I'm going to slip getting out of the shower (have put my back out doing that in the past). Everything was spotlessly clean with acres of snow white bed linen. Plenty of clothes storage if you are staying for more than just one night. The bed was really comfortable. It was lovely to walk round the pond and to sit outside one's room at night on the garden chairs. We met the black cat and the dogs. The full English Breakfast was very nice and set us up for the day.

What a B&B should be! Strongly recommend

Clean good size rooms with large comfortable double bed (can be split as twin), Good hot shower. Quiet in a rural setting with plenty of parking space. Ideal for a short one or two night stay. Great English breakfast and as much as you like, they make the sausages from their own Black Spot pigs and use eggs from the farm, you order what you want and it's there in a jiffy. Liz and Dave were great hosts and were relaxed about our late arrival on a Saturday night. For the price it's excellent value. We'd just come from the Cotswolds where we paid nearly twice as much, strip away the glitzy china and Blatches was a better B&B in absolute terms and much cheaper. Definitely be back if we're in the area and need a bed for the night

Family Visit

We stayed here for two nights and what a gem of a place. The rooms were in a renovated stable block and each had its own lockable outer door. The rooms were clean and fresh and the beds were soooooo comfortable. The bathroom was modern and the shower was very powerful. We took along our small dog and she was also made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was good with a varied choice. The location was great, a real back to nature feel. Liz and David (yes first name terms added to the relaxed feel) were pleasant and eager to please. We will stay again definitely.

Blatches farm

I was apprehensive at first, them having no restaurant / bar but I have to say my stay was perfect for the occasion. I was on a five day training course, so didn't have too many distractions. Very kind and friendly hosts Dave and Liz, excellent breakfast served in their breakfast area, never had such fresh yellow eggs in my life! If you like the country then this is for you. Plenty of walking cycling opportunities to be had, the flitch way is only a couple of hundred yards south. Comfy beds and room cleaned and tidied every day. Dave is like superman, he's there doing the breakfast, fixing cars, coaching sports, building houses around and about, everything. will defiantly go back again.

Perfect relaxing weekend thanks to Blatches

Wanted a base for the weekend just for relaxation and nice food. Originally looked around local areas but then found this hidden beauty with a fishing pond - a hobby my partner hasn't done for years. The cottages are large enough with a huge bed and perfect bathroom with walk in shower. There were a few animals on the farm but what do you expect?! They were incredibly friendly and even made me overcome my fear of cats! They were as friendly as the warm owners. Breakfast was heavenly with most ingredients from the farm. Isn't located in a village itself but is a £10 taxi ride to Dunmow or a 5 minute drive to Stebbing where there is a pub. Dunmow has a wide selection of restaurant and pubs. Perfect weekend away.

Underselling themselves!

We were invited to a wedding in Billericay and having had a bad experience with a Premier Inn, we decided to look for something a bit less 'chainy'. This place is a little gem! They had our room ready for us at 10:30am, even though they were still on breakfast service when we arrived. The room was absolutely spotless, beautifully finished and well equipped, and the bed was huge!!!! We had a comfortable nights sleep and woke to a fabulous breakfast, with sausages made from their own piggy's and a lovely friendly service! I cannot believe it was the price they charged. If we need to be in that area again, I would book it in a shot! Just fantastic!

Peaceful farm before flight out

Very relaxing night at this family run farm. Close to Great Dunmow which is a lovely historic market town with thatched roofs and merchant houses. We ate at an Indian restaurant recommended by the farm, top stuff! They serve one of the best breakfast selections I've ever seen in the UK! A good start to keep me going through airports etc. Their friendly dog and farm cats come and say hi when you walk to the breakfast room too. A real homely experience. Rooms had big, comfy beds and nice, hot showers. Good touch with cappuccino and biscotti's in the room too! My tip for parking is one of the highly rated non-official airport locations. Just do a search as taxis can be expensive.

Lovely place, lovely people...

If anyone deserves success it's the owners of Blatches Farm. They are kind, considerate and friendly, running a quaint B & B. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool 4*/5* man (Hilton Honours / Novotel / Priority. etc;) but this was a terrific find, in a nice rural setting. The rooms were well appointed and clean, the breakfast first-rate. I'm very noise sensitive to others noise in hotels, but the owner here kindly gave me an end room (number 8) and even blocked out the next room so I would rest well. How kind was that! I would like to thank these lovely people for looking after me so well, and of course I'll be back!

Surpassed all expectations

We have just stayed for one night and I have been driven to write my first ever review! The welcome could not have been warmer, the room was in what might be converted stables a short distance from the house (so you don't feel like you're intruding in someone's home, always a drawback of B&Bs!). The bed was huuuge and super comfy, plenty of storage, very clean and modern whilst still being cosy. The bathroom was lovely and the little touches like shower caps, cards for local taxi companies and instant cappuccino really added to the experience. Our host asked us what time we would like breakfast and was very accommodating - the food was quick, hot and decent quality, and they know how to cook properly crispy bacon on request. Really pleasantly surprised and we are looking for an excuse to return.

Went the extra mile, brilliant!

My partner and I stayed here after a wedding in the local area. I got a bit too enthusiastic at the free bar at the wedding so unfortunately didn't make it to breakfast although my partner said it was lovely (full English). The room was spacious and clean. Loved being on a farm and loved the friendly dogs who lived there. The owners also recommended a taxi company who came to pick us up after the wedding. I can't remember the taxi drivers name but he was lovely. THE BEST BIT - due to my aforementioned drinking enthusiasm I left my dress in the room when we left the next day (don't worry I was wearing other clothes). I emailed the owners to ask them if they had found my dress offering to pay the postage so I could get it back. I didn't hear anything but arrived home tonight to find my dress safely packaged up and returned to me. It was such a lovely thing to do and I really appreciated the effort they went to. Thanks so much.

Welcoming, accommodating, friendly and delicious breakfast!

We booked this as a stop-over after a wedding last weekend. We weren't after much, just a bed to drop into at the end of the night! When we arrived we thought it was such a lovely unique idea to convert the old farm buildings and it really made the whole place feel homely and authentic. We had asked in advance about the possibility of parking our car there for the day and this was no trouble - they even checked us in a lot earlier than expected so we were very grateful! When we went into the room, the bed was huge and so comfy (we were very nearly tempted to stay there all day instead of going to the wedding!). The room itself was clean and looked very well kept. In the morning, we wandered over to the breakfast room and were instantly welcomed with smiles and coffee! The breakfast was absolutely DELICIOUS (we both wish we could have stomached a bit more to eat after too much vino!) and David and Liz made us feel really looked after. Couldn't have asked for any better and would recommend to anyone. We look forward to visiting again soon and spending some more time here. Thank you so much for a lovely weekend.
